UKAI Experience

Do you know what "Ukai" is? 

Ukai is cormorant fishing. 

Cormorant Fishing is an ancient method of catching ayu (a trout-like fish) with trained birds.  This takes place at night under the light of blazing torches fastened to the prows of fishing boats.  

You can watch Ukai many places in Japan. 

We chose Kisogawa Ukai, the closest Ukai place from Nagoya, in Inuyama. 

鵜飼って知ってますか？

鵜飼って飼いならしたウをつかって魚をとる漁法。

鵜飼は鮎をとるためにずーっと昔から使われてて、今はその様子を屋形船に乗って見学出来ます。

結構いろいろな所でやってるみたいだけど、私達は名古屋から一番近い、木曽川鵜飼を見に犬山まで行って来ました〜♪

We chose a tour with dinner (bento box). 

Price (during 1st Sep〜15th Oct) : 2500 yen 

Bento Box: 3000 yen 

Started from 5:30~ 

Dinner started from 6:00~ on the fishing boat (houseboat), cruised around Kisogawa. 

The Bento Box was was yummy .... but isn't that too expensive?? 

Having said that, I looooooove having dinner on a boat though. 

Nice breeze and nice view - can't complain. 

私達は夕食付き(お弁当）のﾂｱｰで申し込み♪

料金：2500円（９月１日から１０月１５日）

お弁当：3000円

集合時間：５時半

夕食は６時から屋形船の上で一時間かけて木曽川遊覧中に頂きます。

弁当は。。。美味しかったけどさ、高くない？

が、やっぱ船の上で食べるご飯は格別☆

秋風気持ちいいし、景色もいいし、文句言っちゃいかんねw

We chose "Yu-raku" from Horibe, but there are more bento options and you can choose whatever you like. 

We have about 15 people on the boat - I, of course, checked other people's bento box. 

Damn..... We've got the smallest box, haven't we? 

私達は”夕楽”と言う堀部さんのお弁当を注文しましたが、弁当ｵﾌﾟｼｮﾝ結構いっぱいあるので、好みで選べます☆

屋形船にはだいたい１５人くらい乗ってて、やっぱ他の人のお弁当ﾁｪｯｸしちゃいますよね〜、やっぱw

あれ？！って、うちらのが一番小さいんじゃ。。。。（涙）

It's not a big deal hey - in fact, I enjoyed the bento box:-) Never mind~♪

From the boat, you can see the famous Inuyama Castle, (a part of) Monkey Park..... and lots of beautiful nature lol 

ま、別にそんなの気にしなーい。だって美味しかったし♪

ﾎﾞｰﾄの上からは、犬山城と、ﾓﾝｷｰﾊﾟｰｸ（の一部）。。。。と、自然が見えます。

The sun was going down, lanterns were lighted - getting excited!!! 

(Remembering Hoian in Vietnam LOL)

日が沈みかけて、ちょうちんに火が灯されます。

なんかちょっとﾄﾞｷﾄﾞｷ♡

（そして、ﾍﾞﾄﾅﾑのﾎｲｱﾝ思い出しちゃったり）

At 7:15pm! It started. 

I could see 3 men on the fishing boat and one of the guy at the front holding 10 trained birds. 

We followed the boat and watched "Ukai". 

But.............. it's too dark. 

午後７時１５分、ついに始まりました！

３人の男性が船に乗ってるのが見えるし、先頭の男性が10羽の鵜を操ってるのも見える。

私達の屋形船も動きながら鵜飼観覧。

が、、、、、、めっちゃ暗いやん！

 I tired to take many pictures, but no luck. 

This ↑one is the best shot (......I know you can't see anything.) 

I could hear crowing or a man shouting..... but can't see!!!! 

Once it finished, they stopped the boat and explained what Ukai is. 

....... still, can't see LOL 

何枚も写真取ったんだけど、全然いいのがないぃぃ（涙）

この写真↑がﾍﾞｽﾄｼｮｯﾄ。。（見えないね）

鵜がｶﾞｩｶﾞｩ鳴いてる音とか、鵜匠さんが叫んでる声は聞こえるんだけど。。。

何も見えない。

一通り終えると、船を止めて鵜飼について説明してくれるんだけど。。。。

これもまた、見えない（笑）

If you really want to see what they are doing on the boat with the birds, you better go during the day??

I would recommend you? .....ummmmm not sure LOL
Anyway it was a good experience though!

もし、鵜匠さん達が何やってるかよく見たいなら、お昼の部のがいいのかな？

鵜飼お勧めするかと言われたら。。。。わかんないw
いい経験ではあったけどね♪
